Energy Audit
|
NMC has conducted the energy audit for entire water system including Pumping system.
Description of Initiatives
The energy conservation potential for NMC has been identified and divided into three broad categories.
1. Reduction in pumping head by rationalization of water transmission system for reduction of static and frictional head. Action plan was prepared to reduce the system head for pumping by 11 mtr from original 60 mtr pumping head has resulted in to 20% saving in energy cost for pumping of 136 Mld.
Existing Pumping Lift = 95 m :Water Loss =25%
Proposed Pumping Lift = 55 m : Water Loss =2%
2. Improvement in pumping system efficiency by replacement of ageing inefficient pumps with better efficient pump and improvement in existing pumping machinery to operate at Best efficiency point (BEP). It includes replacement of the 40 numbers of pumps. The selection of pumps was done by present value of pumping cost (Capital cost + Energy cost + spares cost) for the period of 10 years. It resulted in to selection of best efficient pumps. The 15-25% savings are started from implemented project.
3. Effective control & remote monitoring system to operate pumping system at prescribed efficiency level.
4. System improvement / up-gradation to reduce the losses in the system.
Process

- Scope of Energy audit includes
- Study of existing system and past record
- Set the existing energy consumption benchmark
- Study of system energy efficiency from source to consumer.
- Checking of equipment efficiency including pump
- Check the process losses for energy efficiency
- Preparation action plans for short, medium and long-term measures.
- Prepare action plan with no investment, minor investment and major investment.
- Implementation of no investment proposal.
- Preparation of DPR
- Submission of DPR to JNNURM for Approval
- Approval from JNNURM
