Kanhan Augmentation Scheme
Need of the Project
  • Year 1942 Kanhan Water Works executed, need rehabilitation/replacement.
  • Additional flow 40-120 Mld (July to January). This water can be tapped & lifted during mansoon and saving equivalent quantum of water in Pench for supply to city.
  • Saving Rs. 10-15 lakhs for constructing sand bags Bandhara for heading up of water at existing head works.
  • Existing reservation of water in Pench for city 112 Mm3/year (315 Mld) and additional reservation of 78 Mm3/year (213 Mld) of water over existing is only upto Dec., 2006.
  • Irrigation Department is not willing to confirm the additional reservation of 78 Mm3.
  • Development of new source to cater intermediate requirement is highly expensive (Rs. 3.0 Crores / Mld).

  • Laying 1300 mm MS pipeline Kanhan WTP to Automotive Sq.

Project Benefits
  • Additional water of 21.90 Mm3 is available to city with marginal renovation to existing system.
  • New WTP of 240 Mld shall be built in cost of Up-gradation to 60 years old existing plant & new 120 MLD capacity.
  • Saving in water tariff by @ Rs.1.00 crores/ year.
  • Project will be implemented without affecting the present treated water supply of 120mld.
